These protests against the university for upholding a policy prohibiting hiring LGBTQ people are coming from the university’s students. Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson is (effectively) supporting the students in their litigation against the school. In response, the university is suing the State of Washington over its probe into the school’s LBGTQ exclusion, claiming a violation of its first amendment rights.

This is another example of how Christians in leadership will face increasing pressure to cave to the demands of the LGBTQ community. In this case, this is a persecution of the institution because they hold to what the Scripture teaches, even though it comes from within their own ranks.

Homosexuality is now accepted in nearly every corner of America and many parts of the world. But its’ wide-spread acceptance doesn’t change the Biblical teaching on it. Those who believe that sex is reserved for marriage and that Biblical marriage is defined as one man and woman are in a shrinking minority. And teaching that the Bible teaches that God approves of homosexuality displays an audacious eisegesis of the Scriptures and significant hubris to go against nearly 2000 years of Biblical teaching by thousands of teachers.

I anticipate our Congress will pass legislation this year supporting same-sex marriage. But legalizing sin doesn’t change God’s mind. Those who remain faithful to God’s teachings will find a rich reward in heaven, even though we may need to endure significant persecution on this earth. But those who cave to these current demands are at risk of turning their backs on God. Just read the first four chapters in Revelation.

This issue isn’t just about sexual rights. It’s an issue with eternal consequences too. Faithfulness to God and His word is not easy. But then, God never promised us an easy life on this earth.
