I must admit that the Supreme Court’s
upholding of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. ObamaCare, was a depressing day for me. I honestly feel that we lost a serious amount of individual liberty that day, notwithstanding Chief Justice Robert’s majority opinion, which is laced with references to “limited powers” and the Federalist Papers. I will also freely admit that it has gnawed at me over the last two weeks. I keep coming back to the notion that if the Federal Government can tax me if I don’t do what they tell me to do, then what, if any, restraints are there on Federal Power? “None” is the only answer I can come up with. Is there anything the Federal Government doesn’t do these days? We have public restrooms, public libraries, public TV, public radio, public education, public retirement, public roads, public loans, public groceries, public beaches, public forests, public land, public transportation, public pools, public mail, public medical services and the list goes on and on. All of this paid for by you and me and none of it opposed by the church. The taking of 1/7 of our economy by Congress to ensure a few million people have health insurance is an extension of the socialistic mentality that is so pervasive in our country.

Speaking of a loss of liberty, this post shows that women, under the rule of the extremist forms of Islam, are worthless. What surprises me is how silent the women’s groups are on the blatant abuse and violence against women in Muslum countries. Caution – this is a disturbing video.

From the “you can’t make this stuff up” department, a man who tries to commit suicide is chased by a waiter in a gorilla suit. Really?

I continue to enjoy Richard Fisher and read everything I can that he writes. Here is his latest speech before the Australian American Leadership Dialogue. He has a great personal story – which he relays in his presentation.

Finally, I thought I’d post pictures of bad jobs that people have. Perhaps we all need a bit of humor to remind ourselves how blessed we are to have jobs and to earn an income. Millions in our society would like to have the same but can’t find a job to save their hide. My heart goes out to them. Anyways, enjoy!
